Senior Advanced Camp | Print |  E-mail

Senior Rock Climbing CampOur Senior Rock Climbing Summer Camp is unlike any other out there! This program is only open to previous Senior Camp and Regular Camp Alumni or very experienced climbers.  We focus on moving your foundational skill set forward, helping take your climbing to the next level, and accomplish definitive goals for improvement.  If campers love bouldering, we want them to send the hardest problem they have ever tried at summer camp.  If campers love trad, we want hone their on-sight skills.  If campers love multipitch or toproping, we want to give them the opportunity to do something totally different and mind-blowing.

Fox Mountain Guides and Climbing School is uniquely qualified to provide the advanced Senior Rock Climbing Camp.  Our curriculum is vigorous and flexible, so we can adapt quickly to students whose abilities may vary widely.  We think that is pretty special.  Our guides and instructors are not locked into a static selection of climbs or locales.  We climb well on the hardest lines at every climbing area in the southeast, we have the technical expertise to turn any climb into a learning environment, and we are excited about new challenges and diverse programming.

Schedule

Day One:  Toproping and basic skills Review.  We spend the first day reviewing all the basics, just a refresher, moves very quickly.

Day Two:  Finding Limits.  The second day we get right into our goal setting.  The first step is to figure where campers are.  We find the climbs that are easy for them, we find the climbs that hard for them, we find the climbs that are impossible for them.  Our goals have to start from the impossible.

Day Three:  Adventure Day.  With more skilled students, we can take on more advanced multipitch climbs.  It is good to have one day where students see an experienced lead climber on-sight a more complex climb.

Day Four:  Focus on Cruxes.  We spend a day doing crux rehearsal on bouldering and toprope climbs at the students onsight ability.  We look at ways to refine efficiency in order to push the maximum on-sight ability.

Day Five:  Project Discovery and ‘Head-pointing’.  We drive to Linville Gorge, where the rock is steep and challenging.  We select projects for each student and begin toprope rehearsal for the big send.

Day Six:  Project Day.  Everyone fires their projects!!!!

Day Seven:  Fond Farewells.  We wrap up with one last bouldering session, and then pack it in for another summer!

“Just wanted to let you know how much we Aayush, Aarohi and I enjoyed our week long camp this summer. They still can’t stop talking about it. Thank you and your team for making it a fun, safe and wonderful learning experience.”  --Atul R. Mahableshwarkar MD

From the Owner -

"After working as the Director of Outdoor Adventure Programming at one of Americas largest summer camps for over sixteen years I know what kids and teens want! I wanted to offer a higher level of rock climbing camp, similar to the ski, and tennis 'Pro Camps'. So I hired the best instructors and guides in the business that have years of experience working with teens and started the FMG Rock Camp."
