2012 Season Welcome Letter
Dear Parents and Campers,
This upcoming season is shaping up to once again excite and motivate those of us at Fox Mountain Guides and those participating in the camps. Last year turned out to be another fantastic summer with climbing days at Looking Glass, Rumbling Bald, and Linville Gorge. This year we hope to make it even better!
This year, we will again be running three different camp programs. The first is the Junior Program for kids 10-12 years old. It is a great way to be introduced to climbing outside. In the Junior Program we strive to help kids become familiar with rock climbing outside by teaching them movement skills, equipment, belaying, a great appreciation for the outdoors as well as LOTS of climbing!
For 13-18 year olds we have our Regular Camps and advanced Senior Camps. The Regular Camps are focused on the climber with little to no outdoor rock climbing experience. We teach them basic systems used in climbing, climbing movement, and introduce them to multipitch climbing. Besides these skills, we will also inspire a sense of adventure and introduce them to the lifestyle that comes with climbing.
For the13-18 year old climber that is more experienced, we offer our advanced Senior Camps that are better suited for the returning camper or more experienced. Through the week, these camps focus on taking the climbers skills and ability to the next level. This could include coaching on movement, instruction on leading traditional routes, or learning more technical systems.
Last summer I had the privilege of spending time with the camps and this year I will be heading up the team running the 2012 programs. Since joining Fox Mountain Guides, I have been working within the youth climbing programs such as taking out Scouts, Church and School Groups, but also family trips and teaching our higher end technical skills courses. I began instructing while in college and that passion has enabled me to work in wilderness therapy programs for youth and now in guiding fulltime for FMG. This season myself and the team here at Fox are ready to take your climbing to the next level!
I am excited to see you all this upcoming season for what I hope will be a launching pad for the rest of your climbing career in the beautiful and adventuresome mountains of Western North Carolina.
Sincerely,
Director of Summer Camp Programs
Fox Mountain Guides and Climbing School
